As the web grows, our bookmarks and favorites grow with it. The enormity of bookmarks can become overwhelming, not just in volume but in managing them as well. Pistachio is a sort of online bookmarking site that helps you manage and organize your favorites while saving them in the cloud.

The web capturing service is slightly different than traditional online bookmarking services. Pistachio encourages organization right from the get go by probing users for additional details about their bookmark or Stash as they call them. Additional details can be anything and is a great way to quickly distinguish one item from another.

As users stash their favorites, Pistachio automatically saves the URL along with any additional details and location if pertinent. From there, stashes are sorted into 1 of 5 categories – Eat & Drink, Watch, Read, Listen and See & Do. Each category can be drilled down further for more precise saving. For instance, stashing a new restaurant website would most likely be filed under Eat & Drink and then under a Restaurants subcategory. Beyond standard stashing, Pistachio offers a Remind me Later feature and options to share your stashes socially through Twitter or Facebook. In our restaurant example, Pistachio could remind you when 2-for-1 specials are and tweet the information out to your followers.

Users can stash anything they find on the web and Pistachio provides a couple easy ways to do it. For Google Chrome users a browser extension is available or bookmarklet for all other browsers. We’d like to see an import feature on the list for future improvements, but otherwise this is a nice option to get your bookmarks and yourself organized.

The Fur.ly interface is much like any other URL shortener in that it has a place to enter a link and captcha to verify against bots. Fur.ly immediately offers the option for multiple URLs after each initial web address is entered. Users who want to be specific with their message or track their links can optionally customize the shortened link itself.

When a user clicks a Fur.ly link, they are directed to the first URL in the sequence. Fur.ly displays a banner across the top of the page indicating the number of links, URLs of those links an option to open links in new browser window, a view count and a statistics link. Statistics are displayed in a separate tab/window and are sorted by date.

Fur.ly is free and there aren’t any registration requirements for viewing statistics. Fur.ly is a great idea for those who want to share more information than a single link can provide and the unobtrusive banner means users shouldn’t feel put-off by it.

Typically a logo is used which makes finding a bookmark incredibly easy for users. A feature that we always look for in an online bookmarking site is import of existing browser bookmarks. Skloog handles imports from Delicious, Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari. Currently there is no export function, but their support section implies the feature is in the works.

You’ve probably heard of photoshopping or the Photoshop effect. It describes the process of retouching a photo to make it visually more appealing or otherwise mask accuracy in an image. PicTreat does something similar, but at a much lower learning curve and more specific in its task.

PicTreat is a free online image editing tool that, in a single click improves facial photographs. The process is performed by their facial recognition, detection and correction technology which examines uploaded photos and returns an altered, presumably improved photo. Obviously any alterations are a matter of opinion on improvement quality, but there can be no doubt that PicTreat does manipulate photos to produce a new, unique image.

Some examples of PicTreat’s corrections include removal of large blemishes, red eye, pale skin features, faded or mis-colored photos, even freckle removal. Users don’t need to choose parts of photos for removal, PicTreat determines that on its own. Afterwards, users can view the treated photo along with the original to see real time changes.

Photos can be uploaded through the web interface directly from a computer or via URL. Users who create a sign-in can use photos acquired through Facebook, MySpace, Flickr and Photobucket. Final results are shareable and PicTreat offers more than 25 different sharing options.

Players have already seen some issues with server uptime and while that’s to be expected at the onset of a highly hyped game like Diablo 3, Blizzard seems to have taken care of many of the early issues quickly. Steam Wallet is Valve’s version of prepaid cards. Essentially, they are like all the other prepaid gift cards we’ve come to recognize, used exclusively for Steam purchases. The cards are initially available in $20 and $50 increments, though success of the program could mean additional values.

The program provides a payment option other than that of the traditional credit card or Paypal payment. By using Steam Wallet, customers avoid sending their credit card information into the ether as well as provide alternate means for others looking to gift credits to gamers.

While not an entirely unique concept, it is one that Valve is hoping boosts their overall sales and exposure. With rumors of a Steam console set to possibly debut at E3 2012, Valve is no doubt positioning itself to deal with early sales.
