Hate the Facebook News Ticker?\u00a0 You aren’t alone.\u00a0 Many people have complained and there has been a huge uproar over the Facebook changes.\u00a0 The good news is, you’re a GeekITDown Blog reader and as such you are able to try a few options that should get rid of that pesky News Ticker.<\/p>\n

These solutions will depend on which browser you’re using.\u00a0 If you use Internet Explorer (IE) you have no options, you’re stuck with whatever Facebook puts on the screen.\u00a0 If however, you use Chrome or Firefox then you might be able to get rid of the Facebook News Ticker.<\/p>\n

Chrome<\/h3>\n

There is an extension called ‘Unannoying Facebook<\/a>‘ which will remove the news ticker.\u00a0 Simply install the extension, then refresh your Facebook page.\u00a0 You should see the difference immediately.\u00a0 If not, just logout of Facebook, close\/open your browser and log back in to Facebook to see the changes.<\/p>\n

Firefox<\/h3>\n

Like Chrome, you’ll need to install and extension for Firefox.\u00a0 Adblock Plus is an extension that has long been a favorite for Firefox users.\u00a0 It blocks ads on websites.\u00a0 With this extension you can add small snippets of code known as filters to block out the news ticker.<\/p>\n

  1. Install Adblock Plus<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Click the Firefox button in the upper left hand corner and select Add-ons.<\/li>\n
  3. Find Adblock Plus and click options.<\/li>\n
  4. Click Filters and select ‘Add filter’.<\/li>\n
  5. Type the following lines into the New filter box:

    \nwww.facebook.com##[id=”pagelet_ticker”]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

  6. Refresh your browser to see the changes.\u00a0 If all went well the news ticker should be gone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This method will also work with Chrome if you are using the Adblock<\/a> extension.<\/p>\n

    While these methods may not be as direct as simply turning the feature on\/off they should get the job done.\u00a0 It should be noted that Facebook could easily, in the future, make more new changes that render these fixes useless and not every fix will work for everyone.<\/p>\n
