Amazon’s video app finally launched for the Xbox 360 today. The arrival means the end of a long wait for Xbox 360 owners and the beginning of hopefully a fruitful Amazon, Microsoft relationship.
The app includes Amazon Instant Video services along with Amazon Prime purchases. All video purchases and rentals (current) are now available for viewing through the Xbox 360 Amazon video app. Amazon Prime members can access the video library directly through the Xbox 360 at no additional charge.
Amazon’s video library has continued to grow and while still significantly less than Netflix, it has approximately 17,000 movies and TV shows available. On May 23, 2012, Amazon announced another expansion of their video catalog with the addition of Paramount Pictures. The licensing agreement means even more blockbuster and hit movies available on demand.
One other thing to note for Xbox owners is Amazon/Kinect functionality. Users can browse and search for titles by motion gestures and voice commands. The integration with Kinect means an even more effortless viewing experience in the home. You can read the full release statement in Amazon’s press release.
