If you’re a passionate Mass Effect 3 fan, then you’ve no doubt heard the loud murmurs and outright complaints about the game’s ending. In a nutshell, fans feel unsatisfied with the lack of answers and unfulfilled by the journey’s end.
In a statement, Bioware co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka addresses those complaints and promises some alterations to appease those “core fans”. Muzyka responds to fans saying,
“I personally believe Mass Effect 3 is the best work we’ve yet created. So, it’s incredibly painful to receive feedback from our core fans that the game’s endings were not up to their expectations.”
He goes on to say,
“The journey you undertake in Mass Effect provokes an intense range of highly personal emotions in the player; even so, the passionate reaction of some of our most loyal players to the current endings in Mass Effect 3 is something that has genuinely surprised us. This is an issue we care about deeply, and we will respond to it in a fair and timely way. We’re already working hard to do that.”
The fact that Bioware is willing to acknowledge the descent and respond to it in the form of new content is commendable. It shows their passion to the game and fans which is something we can all appreciate.
Whether the additions are content rewrites or DLC remains to be seen. While fans appear to be getting the answers they crave, they shouldn’t expect too much retooling. The game itself is highly successful and has received high marks from critics across the board. To that end, expect to see content which addresses specific questions rather than full blown rewrites.
