According to a Bloomberg report, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is set to spin-off its PC business and focus more towards software and cloud computing services.
The unnamed sources expect details about the change in direction as early as today. The company’s PC sales have struggled along with the rest of the industry and by making this move HP is putting a lot of faith in the future of the cloud and software business. While the struggles are industry wide, HP has maintained the overall lead in PC sales and this move could be looked upon as a climate shift.
In an effort to boost their cloud and software presence, HP is eyeing the British company Autonomy which handles software technology.
HP has earnings reports today which comes as no small coincidence if the announcement is made later on this evening.
