If you’ve ever played a word finder or word maker game, then you’re probably aware of how addicting they can be. It’s astonishing just how many words you can discover and yet miss at the same time. Scramble Touch is a modern mobile game app which resembles Boggle from days past.
Scramble Touch is played by tapping sequences of letters which spell out words. The board can be set at two different sizes, 4×4 or 5×5 and time limits are adjustable from 1 to 3 minutes. Just like in other word games (ie Scrabble etc.), Scramble Touch points are scored based on the point value for letters and the length of the words.
The game offers a variety of ways to play. There is Classic Mode which pits you against the clock, Guided Mode in which the game provides you with words to find and Bonus Mode which adds bonus values to letters in the Classic Mode style. All three of which can be played through Single Player or Play and Pass. Play and Pass is a way to play with a friend whereby the phone is handed off between players. Scramble Touch’s multi-player mode isn’t yet available so Play and Pass is as close as users can get to playing with friends for now.
We find the dictionary to be satisfactory. There were some unexpected words but also, at times, words that weren’t legitimate according to the game. The trade-off seems acceptable. Scramble Touch keeps a record of best scores for each game mode and board size.
The interface is polished. No fuzzy graphics or askew frames to speak of. Sounds are arcade style achievement tones with progressively higher pitch tones for higher point totaling words. Scramble touch is available on Android for $1.59.
