Have you been seriously wondering if moving to the cloud is a realistic option? If you have, then you’ve likely seen a lot of choices but little freedom. On a personal level, it’s definitely possible to move your entire computing life to the cloud. SkyDesktop can make that happen a little faster.

SkyDesktop is a desktop in the cloud. Much like current computer desktops where there are shortcuts and icons about, SkyDesktop produces the same though virtually through a browser. The service is free with a SkyAppMarket where users can purchase apps to fit their computing needs.

The idea is a good one. Success means the end of traditional Windows and Mac desktops and the beginning of an entirely cloud based computing experience. SkyDesktop feels comfortable and provides a real outlet for those who need their entire desktop with them but don’t want to carry around a laptop all day. Everything is stored in the cloud, so there’s no more forgetting a file at home or on another system. That’s what makes the cloud great and SkyDesktop capitalizes on it.

SkyDesktop has a lot of potential and has seen some decent success thus far. Having said that, here’s what we’d like to see from SkyDesktop. More transparency with regards to usable apps for non-users. Frankly, their own SkyAppMarket leaves a lot to be desired so showing off those to non-users is unlikely to encourage sign-up. SkyDesktop wants to be a business professionals’ solution and it may well be, but they need to provide more detailed information that potential users can absorb and base a decision on. For now, SkyDesktop is a nice option for getting your feet wet with all-in-one cloud solutions. Dip your toes and see if it fits your computing lifestyle.
