GoFileDrop Turns Google Drive Into A Drop-off Box For Files

GoFileDrop

You work with others everyday. Some of them are in house personnel while others are outside contractors or even partner companies without direct access to your network. In order to share files with people outside your immediate business you’d typically email a file or share it via a one off file-sharing service. However if you have a Google Drive account, then GoFileDrop can make it much easier on you.

What is GoFileDrop?

GoFileDrop is an app that interacts with your Google Drive (Google Apps) account and allows others to directly upload files to it. GoFileDrop describes their app well,

Think of GoFileDrop as a mailbox (or post box if you are in Europe) to your Google Drive account, the sender has NO ACCESS to your Google account, files deposited in your account are only accessible to you as the owner.

The app is little more than an add-on which turns your Google Drive account into a personal file drop-off box.

How It Works

To get started users need to authorize GoFileDrop with their existing Gmail account. Afterwards, users can access a GoFileDrop admin area which provides a link to a specific GoFileDrop webpage where others can send files to users.

Anytime someone drops a file in your Google Drive account, an email is sent to you as notification of the delivery.

Security

GoFileDrop uses the Google Apps Engine and uses SSL encryption for logins. GoFileDrop has no access to your Gmail or Google Drive account beyond simple authorization of integration. Files sent to Google Drive are not stored by GoFileDrop which means files are dropped directly to the Google Docs account and the trail ends there.

Summary

If you’re still wondering why anyone needs this app, then think of this. You can share your Google Docs/Google Drive files with anyone at anytime because they’re yours. However, in order for others to share files diectly with you they need a different method. By using GoFileDrop, you can keep all files in one place, Google Drive, by allowing others to deliver the files to you without actually having access to your account.
