The change means very little for customers. Usernames, passwords and existing data will not change. Users will be given an agreement option when signing in to SEN for the first time. Sony has highlighted some changes which include:
- A description of our “What’s New” section, which provides topical information about our services and advertisements.
- Information about pre-ordering content.
- The name of your “PlayStation Network account” is changing to a “Sony Entertainment Network account.”
Sony’s explanation for the change is summarized as enhancement to align with company goals. Goals which include bringing more media and content through Sony powered devices.
Sony’s taken some heat over the past year for its lack of security and information breaches. Removing the PSN name will in the short term mean little in the way of forgetting the missteps, but given time Sony can leave those errors behind with a strong showing under SEN.
