Microsoft has been rolling out market leading enterprise technology for almost 30 years, ever since the initial launch of Windows 1.0 back in 1985. The company now offers a portfolio of products offering enterprise solutions across cloud, server, security, database, mail, development, project management and customer relations management (amongst others).

Celebrating the preview launch of Microsoft’s flagship products System Center 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014, Firebrand Training decided to pay homage to the Tech giant by creating a guide for their existing enterprise technology portfolio.

A Historical Timeline Of Microsoft Technology

Over the past year we have seen a major influx of new Microsoft products. We’ve seen the latest installment of the Server OS, Windows Server 2012, dubbed the first Cloud OS. Windows 8 hit the shelves, the first multi platform OS available on smartphone, tablet or PC with a brand new Metro interface. And we’ve even seen Microsoft’s first pitch at the table market, launching the Surface Tablet, a product which was met with mixed reviews and interest from the industry as a whole.

So as we get to grips with the latest batch of Microsoft Technology Products, why not take a look back at the soon to be 40 year History of Microsoft. From humble beginnings of the Windows 1.0 OS, Microsoft has come a long way launching a wide range of innovative enterprise products. Lync Server allows businesses to effectively communicate internally, whilst SharePoint facilitates project collaboration through shared documents.

Of course, not every product has been success, highlighted by the fact a certain Windows OS may not have made it into the timeline. Can you spot it?

It’s all about gaming, isn’t it? Maybe not, depending on how much you like to play games. One has to admit that gaming has gained more popularity in the recent years. This can be due to so many reasons, but I think we can agree that the fast-paced development of mobile phones and tablets has played a huge role.

Whether you’re talking about Android devices or gadgets that run on iOS, the fact is that mobile gaming devices (though that gaming may not be the primary/original purpose) have become ubiquitous. This also gave way to the expansion of the gaming audience. While it used to be that gaming was for those who dedicated a lot of time, effort, and money to the activity, now everyone and their mom can relate. (Oh, and add the grandparents as well!)

We’ve taken a look at the largest mobile gaming networks today, together with smartphone market, and the info is summed up neatly in an infographic.

Did you know that there are 1.08 billion smartphones today? Even more remarkable is the data that tells us that smartphones are used mainly for gaming! Playing games takes a whopping 61%, leading all the other activities that people engage in using their smartphone.

The Sacred Order of the Geeks [Infographic]

A geek is a term to denote someone that has a strong devotion or obsession to a certain cause or hobby. A geek’s level of devotion to whatever he or she likes results in a bizarre level of knowledge, and may even hinge on fanaticism to that cause. Unfortunately, a geek’s devotion to their cause may also blind them to obvious facts or truths others may see. In fact, a geek may be sometimes synonymous with the term “hipster”.

The following graphic shows many different types of geeks out there today. Some you may already be extremely familiar with, such as the Apple Fanboy geek or the ever infamous Trekkie (Star Trek) geeks. Other types are not so obvious, and may even be considered mainstream or ok, such as the sports fan geek or crafts geek. Last, some types are becoming more accepted, such as the gaming geek or the film geek. See if you fit into any of these categories!
