If you’re a homeowner, then you’re likely a part-time do-it-yourselfer. Whether reluctantly or by choice, house maintenance and repairs inevitably need to be done. When a project falls outside the do-it-yourself territory it’s time to call in a professional to get the job done. That’s where the frustration begins and where Housefix can help.

Pull up a map online and you can see literally endless amounts of dots portraying contractors. It’s a nightmare trying to find one that is trustworthy, local, skilled for the job, affordable and all the other things associated with finding the right contractor. Phone books aren’t much help either since all you see is an advertisement for a business. Housefix is trying to change all that by turning the frustration into answers.

Housefix is bringing a social element to the cause by encouraging users to signup with existing social network credentials. Social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. allow Housefix to see who your neighbors and friends are using for house repair work. Much like in the real world, neighbors and friends ask each other if they know “good contractors”. If not, homeowners need to search and find someone to fill the need. Housefix allows homeowners to post information about a repair job, including photos, job status and due dates. Once the information is online and available for viewing, contractors can bid on the job.

While bidding is a nice step in the right direction, homeowners still need to do their own research into a contractor or company to determine if they’re legitimate, skilled and trustworthy. Housefix has developed a Housefix Score to help rank contractors. Scores are given between 0-1000 with higher scores equaling better overall performance. Many factors go into the score with much of the scoring dependent upon interaction from both homeowners and contractors. The Housefix Score will create a whole new way of ranking quality contractors and hopefully make choosing one a lot easier.

Housefix is still getting started so you may see limited to no activity in your are at this time, but with more signups and usage the coverage area will surely grow. Additionally, we focused on the homeowner benefits of Housefix, but as a contractor, Housefix provides numerous features for managing projects and of course finding work. Housefix could turn out to be a great evolutionary step for wrangling contractors and delivering quality craftsmanship to homeowners. Homeowners should still do their due diligence when hiring someone, use Housefix as a tool not an authority.
