App Roundup is our monthly feature which highlights a select number of mobile apps that we find to be not only useful, but fun and stable as tested by our techs. At the end of each month we put together a short list, give some basic feedback and details on each app and provide a stability rank. This month our selected apps include sports, gaming, entertainment and email.
Stability rank based on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being most stable.
The Apps
1. Pixlr-o-matic
Pixlr-o-matic is a photograph effects editor app. We recommended Pixlr-o-matic a short time ago and still consider it one of the simplest, easy to use photo editing apps on the market. The app uses new or existing photos, can apply dozens of effects and frames and saves the altered photos as new images while keeping the originals intact. Pixlr-o-matic is a free Android and iOS app.

2. Drag Racing
Anyone who enjoys a good racing game or custom building cars will enjoy this app. Drag Racing is just as it’s name declares, a drag race between you and online or offline opponents. The game offers ¼ and ½ mile races and multiple levels of difficulty. Each level has more advanced vehicles and each has the ability to be modified with advanced parts or special tuning.
The races are short which makes this game a great distraction and online racing with bragging rights, called reputation points, makes the game a lot of fun. Drag Racing is a free Android and iOS app.

3. ESPN Scorecenter
ESPN has long been the leader in sports news and information, but how is the app? It’s a quality app that has ‘The Lead’ and separate screens for each sport which are focused towards your favorite teams. Scorecenter also has a real time ticker which surprisingly doesn’t slow down the app. Overall, ESPN has done a decent job at relaying sporting news through their Scorecenter app. ESPN Scorecenter is a free Android and iOS app.

4. Hotmail
Microsoft continues to support Hotmail in the face of nearly unrivaled competition from Gmail and we’re glad they do. Alternatives are always a good thing and Hotmail is a mainstay among many. The Hotmail app is more than sufficient and does exactly what you’d expect an email app to do. There aren’t a lot of surprises to speak of, but we were pleased to see support for multiple accounts.
The Hotmail app does have one nagging flaw. Old mail seems to be irretrievable through the app. That’s not to say the mail is lost, it just doesn’t appear in the app. Aside from that we don’t really have any complaints. The official Microsoft Hotmail is a free app for Android.

Final Thoughts
Keep in mind although we test the apps, some react differently given the wide range of phones. Always read reviews to help with decision making and make sure you read the app descriptions and info for additional details regarding functionality.
