The games are fun and may have even been seen before in places like Facebook where brain games are common. The variety makes learning a bit less like a task and more like a coffee break game. Some examples are shape matching, mathematics and word recognition all focused on speed and accuracy.
We did experience some minor game glitches involving answers not being registered during math exercises, but otherwise the gameplay was solid.
Scores can be compared to the 25 million member community to see where you rank and how well you are in relation to the populous.
Benefits
The benefits don’t really need to be spelled out, but overall increased brain power and intellectual capacity can lead to a more productive life and keep you mentally healthy well into your aging years.
Drawbacks
There are really only two drawbacks and they both involve pricing. First, the only way to see any kind of pricing information is to circumvent the sign-up process by viewing the Gift Purchases section. If, like most people, you like to know the price before registering, then that process is extremely inconvenient.
Second, the price itself is a bit high at $79.95 a year. In their defense, there are smaller packages which are less expensive, but to truly benefit from a service like this users needs to fully invest themselves in the process and use it for a full year.
Final Thoughts
Lumosity has fantastic exercises to improve mental capacity. While not the first word to come to mind, fun is definitely part of the educating process. Long-term effects of flexing your brain muscles is more than likely positive. Lumosity is a beneficial tool for keeping you mentally focused and sharp and we recommend it for anyone who finds themselves unable to remember or compute things the way they want to.
