How many of us hate CAPTCHAs? If you know what a CAPTCHA is, then you likely raised your hand or nodded in agreement. CAPTCHAs are those strange, distorted letters in a box when we sign-up for services or fill in forms online. They are an eyesore and more importantly are as difficult for humans to read as they are for bots in many cases. So we need a change. Something that doesn’t involve distorted letters and blurred text to confirm we’re human. While we’re at it, let’s make it fun too!
AreYouAHuman (AYAH) is the captcha replacement we all can enjoy. AYAH replaces traditional CAPTCHA with a fun, quick flash game, or PlayThru as they call it, that requires interaction from the user to confirm they are a human. AYAH states that completion of a PlayThru takes roughly 10-12 seconds. That’s less than the time I spent on my last CAPTCHA!
Website owners wondering about high traffic and special needs visitors need not worry. AYAH is built to perform in all situations and has fall back options for visually impaired visitors and identification assistance for the colorblind. PlayThru is as secure and AYAH classifies it as more secure than traditional CAPTCHA because of its multi-level interaction.
Currently, PlayThru is available through PHP integration with plans to add more libraries in the future. We tested PlayThru on several occasions and we’re convinced it is a viable option for site owners looking to rid themselves of the ugly, uncomfortable CAPTCHA. Our own plans include implementation of PlayThru, so look for it in the future.
