Life as a student can be difficult what with all the schoolwork, exams, scheduling, parties, not to mention the social integration. If you’re a student that intends on holding down a job too, then you’ll likely need transportation. While not every student has a car, some do and those who don’t need Wheelz.
Wheelz is a car sharing service that partners those students who own cars with students in need of cars. Vehicle owners set prices for usage and allow a DriveBox, installed by Wheelz, to be added to the vehicle for use with iPhone app or Wheelz card. Car owners have a unique opportunity to actually make some cash from their vehicle while helping out fellow students in need. Imagine making money from your car to pay for tuition, books, food, whatever!
Those in need of transportation will find borrowing a Wheelz car similar to renting a vehicle but less expensive and more convenient since the vehicles are already on campus. The process is somewhat less complicated too. Insurance is completely handled by Wheelz. They provide the insurance which means the car owner doesn’t need to be concerned with it. Wheelz makes finding a vehicle for short trips to town or off-campus to work convenient so students can worry about more important things.
Wheelz has many different makes and models available in the program which translates to a wide variety of vehicles and different cars for different activities. Maybe a more modern or sporty car for a date, but an older sedan for work. Their gas policy is fair which requires a refuel if the gauge drops below ¼ tank. Sign up is free and there is a mobile app for the service. Wheelz is very limited right now and available only in California at Stanford, UC Berkeley, USC and UCLA. For everyone else, Wheelz has a form dedicated to letting them know your school needs Wheelz.
